Gold Coast Racecourse

The first major racing event that was held on this sand track was in 1971, at a time when regular Saturday meets were organized. In the month of August, a 3-day carnival of the Newmarket Gold Coast took place on the brand new grass-track.
With sweeping bends and curves, the Gold Coast Racecourse has a long straight of 400m and a circumference of 1885m. The racing length stretches from 900 to 3200 meters, and is perfect for 1200-1800 meter races. Several major events are lined up at this venue throughout the year, and over 60 race meetings are hosted each season, with the largest being the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Carnival. It has around 10 scheduled races with prize money worth $4.6 million. Other major events include Gold Coast City Cup Race Day and the Easter Carnival.
Sunshine Coast Racecourse
Hardly an hour’s drive towards the north of Brisbane city, the Sunshine Coast Racecourse is a comparatively new track with some exceptional horse racing facilities. It was in July 1985 when the first ever race meet took place at this venue. With 40 towers and 960 lights surrounding the course, night horseracing is a spectacular reality for the visitors.
The entire club is divided into three different tracks including the Course Proper, synthetic Cushion Track and a grass training track. The state-of-the-art cushion strip is the first of its kinds in the country. With a great long straight and sweeping bends, the racecourse has a track circumference of 1967m which covers the perimeter of a lagoon. The history of Ipswich Racecourse dates back to the mid-19th century, although the racing club we know today was founded in 1890, when it was recognized as the Bundamba Racecourse. The club got its present name in the year 1991 and is currently the topmost racing venue in Queensland.
Located in the suburbs of Bundamba, the racecourse is 30-km outside of Brisbane. With 5 chutes, 300m home straight and 1746m course proper, the racecourse hosts 46 race meetings annually, including the Saturday meets. The most popular event held at this venue is the Ipswich Cup in mid-June, which attracts a large group of racing enthusiasts and punters.

It was originally a grass track which was turned into a couple of artificial turf courses in 2009. The venue is known to host the first night race in 1994 and one of the first racecourses to hold racing events under electric lights. Currently, Toowoomba Racecourse is the only one to offer twilight racing for thoroughbreds.
