About The City Of Wyndham
It was on October 6th, 1862 that the District of Wyndham was first integrated as a local government entity. Following the changes in legislation, it was transformed into Shire of Wyndham in 1864, and was later renamed to Shire of Werribee in 1909.
The initial area occupied by the region was roughly around 276 square miles, which was rural in nature. A small portion of it was surrendered to metropolis Melbourne for suburban development purpose. In 1957, the Altona Riding of the Shire of Werribee was included as the Shire of Altona, which eventually became a city after a decade, and in 1987, Werribee itself became a city.
When the local government of Victoria was undergoing major reformations in 1994, Werribee was the least affected one, losing only some portions of rural land. After almost 8 and half decades of being known as Werribee, the former name of the region was restored to be named as the City Of Wyndham, which is currently home to a number of housing estates in suburbs of Tarneit, Truganina, Wyndham Vale, Point Cook and Williams Landing. Other notable suburbs include Laverton, Mambourin, Eynesbury, Quandong and Manor Lakes.
